What to expect during your hearing test

We offer 3 hearing test types at our audiology clinic in Truro Cornwall, these include a screening, basic test and full diagnostics, find out exactly what to expect during each test below:
Free Screening
​
A free hearing screen can be a great first step in checking your hearing health. This complimentary service takes 15 minutes and includes a 5-point scan test, resulting in a pass or fail. If you pass, that's great news! You will then have the option to book in for another free screening in 12 months. With a failed test, you will receive expert advice on why the test failed and how to resolve any issues found; usually, a further basic test or full diagnostics may be recommended.

Take a deeper look at your overall hearing health with a paid test. These assessments incorporate cutting-edge technology such as video otoscopy and pure-tone audiograms, providing a detailed assessment of your auditory systems. Tests are completed by fully trained and dedicated audiologists. With our basic hearing tests, we can identify and treat a wide range of hearing impairments and conditions. Full diagnostics

For just £95, you'll receive a 90 minute 
comprehensive hearing assessment. This includes video otoscopy, tympanometry, pure tone audiogram, speech audiometry to assess your consonant and vowel recognition. We also conduct a speech-in-noise test to gauge your brain's processing of complex signals. Following the tests, we'll explain the results and offer live demonstrations of both hearing aid technology and assistive listening devices. You'll receive a copy of your hearing report, and together, we'll discuss recommended solutions if any further treatment is needed.

Sound Treated Environment

Want to know more about the different tests we do?:
  • Pure Tone Audiometry obtains your hearing thresholds and determines how well you hear sound. We carry this out in our QuietStar sound treated booth
  • Tympanometry evaluates the mobility of your ear drums and identify any middle ear pathology
  • Video otoscopy whereby photographs of your ear canal and ear drum are taken. With the live video you will also be able to see inside your own ear!
  • Speech audiometry determines how well you are hearing the different speech sounds.
  • Speech in noise testing evaluates how well you hear in more social settings

should i clean my ears before a hearing test?
It's important that we can examine your ears clearly; however, using cotton buds to clean ears is not recommended; find out why here. If you suspect your ears are blocked with wax, please contact us before booking a hearing test to discuss wax removal services.
How long does a hearing test take?
​We offer 3 hearing test types, the free screening is 15 minutes , basic test 30 minutes and full diagnostics 90 minutes
do you offer Walk-in appointments?
Unfortunately we can not offer walk in appointments, however you can book online here or call us to book an appointment.
how often should i have a hearing test?
We advise getting a hearing test every 2-3 years, however, if you experience regular hearing issues, a test every 12 months is recommended
