Hearing Loss
What options are available for complex hearing loss?
For those whose hearing difficulties go beyond the scope of standard hearing aids, there are tailored solutions. This includes hearing aids with tinnitus programs, CROS/BiCROS systems, bone conduction devices for conductive losses, cochlear implants for severe hearing loss, and even amplified glasses or AirPods.
What are CROS and BiCROS hearing systems?
CROS (Contralateral Routing of Signal) systems pick up sound from a non-functioning ear and transmit it to the functioning ear. BiCROS systems do the same, while also amplifying sound in the better ear. They help reduce effort and turnarounds in group conversations and noisy environments.
How do I find the right solution for my hearing needs?
An audiologist can guide you toward the best option. K&M offers comprehensive hearing diagnostics, including trials of CROS/BiCROS systems and assessments for cochlear implants or bone conduction devices. Contact us here.
What are the solutions for conductive hearing loss?
Conductive hearing loss, caused by blockages or mechanical issues in the outer or middle ear—can be addressed using bone conduction hearing aids, either surgically implanted or externally worn.
When might a cochlear implant be considered?
For individuals with very severe or profound hearing loss not sufficiently helped by hearing aids or other devices, cochlear implants may be an option. These require evaluation by specialists and are typically assessed on a case-by-case basis.
Can Nuance Audio Glasses help with tinnitus symptoms?
Nuance Audio Glasses provide speech clarity, but if tinnitus is a major concern, hearing aids with specialised tinnitus masking or sound therapy programs may be more appropriate.
