Phonak Audéo Infinio Sphere Review

3/18/2026

In this review, we take an in-depth look at the new Phonak Audéo Infinio Sphere, one of the most advanced hearing aid technology platforms currently available.

Designed to improve speech understanding in complex listening environments and reduce listening effort, this new hearing technology builds on the success of Phonak Lumity while introducing significantly increased computational capability.

For many people with hearing loss, the real challenge is not hearing sound, it is understanding speech clearly when there is competing background noise. The Phonak Infinio Sphere has been developed specifically to address that problem.

Phonak Infinio Sphere Overview – Who These Hearing Aids Are Best For

The Phonak Infinio Sphere hearing aids are positioned as a premium solution for users who struggle in busy environments such as restaurants, group conversations, and public spaces.
They are particularly well suited to:
  • Socially active adults who find background noise overwhelming
  • Experienced hearing aid users upgrading from older technology
  • Individuals who prioritise clarity and ease of listening over ultra-small design
Compared to other hearing aids in the Phonak Infinio range, the Sphere focuses heavily on separating speech from competing sound sources.

Kara explains:
I have fitted quite a few of these aids now, and I have been pleasantly surprised by the feedback from my patients. My first patient whom I fitted with these aids was a long term Phonak wearer. I honestly wasn’t expecting my patent to notice much difference between his old aids and these new ones. On his first follow up, he told me that he had been in the kitchen, boiling the kettle, to make a cup of tea. His wife came in to the kitchen, and spoke to him from behind.

I immediately prepared to jump and say Ooo I think you may be expecting a bit much!... But he surprised me by saying he could hear every word his wife had said! “But the kettle is so loud” I exclaimed! “I know” he responded.

Needless to say he went ahead and purchased the aids after his 1 week trial and he hasn't looked back since. He recently saw me for his 1 year check up and he still loves his aids, and is hearing so much better than he ever did with older technology.

This kind of real-world feedback highlights where these hearing aids make the biggest difference — not in quiet settings, but in everyday, unpredictable environments.

Phonak Infinio Sphere Technology Explained

The key innovation in the Phonak Audéo Infinio Sphere is its use of advanced artificial intelligence and a completely new dual-chip architecture.

Kara explains:
The Phonak Audéo Sphere Infinio have dual ports for both front- and rear-facing microphones, which allow the hearing aid to detect what’s in front of you versus what’s behind and deliver the most appropriate sound for your individual listening environment.

These devices feature two separate chips:
The two-chip system combines the Phonak ERA™ chip for standard processing/connectivity with the dedicated DEEPSONIC™ AI chip, which handles real-time sound separation and noise reduction.

The DEEPSONIC™ Chip is specifically dedicated to AI sound processing and speech-in-noise reduction. And the ERA™ Chip manages general hearing aid functions, Bluetooth, and processing.

This allows the hearing aids to perform:
7.7 billion operations per second and has 53 times more processing power than any existing industry chip.

In real terms, this results in a significant improvement in how speech is separated from background noise, with Phonak reporting:
A 10–11 dB improvement in signal-to-noise ratio

AutoSense has also been further refined:
Phonak have further developed their AutoSense feature on these new aids. It uses sophisticated algorithms to continuously analyse the environment around you and make real-time adjustments to optimise sound clarity and comfort.

Design, Size and Everyday Wear

The Phonak Infinio Sphere is a receiver-in-canal device worn behind the ear. It is slightly larger than previous models, something some users will notice.
Kara addresses this directly:

They are larger than its predecessors, and some of my patients have commented on their size. However they're bigger for a reason. They still sit comfortably next to glasses, and once on the ear, are still very discreet.

Why Are They Bigger?
For years the hearing aid industry focused on making hearing aids smaller and smaller, and discreetness has driven the industry for many years…but at a cost to the listening experience. The smaller the aid, the less room for the technology.

So why are the Phonak aids bigger? They have 2 computer chips - this is a first in the industry. As a result a larger rechargeable battery is needed, resulting in a larger hearing aid.

This is an important trade-off — size versus performance.

Kara also mentions, if the size is very important to the wearer, then a smaller Phonak hearing aid: Audeo Infinio non-sphere option is available, although this will sacrifice some of the amazing features.

Speech Performance in Everyday Situations

The Sphere Infinio is specifically designed to improve how users experience conversations in challenging environments.

The dual-chip system and directional microphones allow the hearing aids to:
  • Focus on speech in front of you
  • Reduce competing background sound
  • Adapt dynamically as environments change

Kara explains how motion sensors also contribute:
Motion sensors provide more information to the hearing aids when determining your listening environment, thus anticipating with greater accuracy your specific hearing needs in that situation.

For example when sat in a cafe, you will want to hear the person sat opposite, but when you get up to leave, and you and your partner are walking along, you want the motion sensors to switch focus so they are on the person now walking along side you.

This creates a more natural listening experience without needing constant manual adjustments.

Listening Effort and Real-Life Benefits

One of the biggest benefits of this technology is reduced listening effort.
Phonak reports:
  • Up to 16% improvement in speech understanding
  • Up to 45% reduction in listening effort
In practice, this means users often feel:
  • Less mentally fatigued
  • More confident in conversations
  • More relaxed in social environments

This aligns with Kara’s real patient feedback, where improvements are noticed not just in sound, but in everyday life.

Connectivity, App, Battery and Features

 The Phonak Infinio Sphere supports:
  • Universal Bluetooth connectivity
  • Hands free phone calls
  • Multi-device pairing
  • LE Audio readiness
The MyPhonak app allows:
  • Volume control
  • Program changes
  • Personalised settings
  • Remote fine tuning
These features provide flexibility and control depending on lifestyle needs.

Battery Life and Trade-Offs
Battery life remains strong for daily use, but the trade-off is clear, the advanced speech-focused technology requires more energy when working harder in challenging settings. Users who spend a lot of time in demanding environments may notice reduced battery performance compared to simpler devices.

Final Verdict: Phonak Sphere vs Other Hearing Aids

The Phonak Audéo Infinio Sphere represents a significant step forward in hearing aid technology.
Pros
  • Strong improvements in real-world conversation clarity
  • Reduced listening effort
  • Advanced AI-driven sound management
  • Reliable connectivity
Cons
  • Slightly larger design
  • Increased battery demand in complex environments
  • Premium price point

Kara summarises it best:
Overall, these aids offer some amazing features to help you hear in background noise environments. The trade off, being a little bigger in size, is worth it in my opinion. However, when considering your wish list, its important for you to decide if discreetness is your number one priority or hearing in noise. When I talk to my patients about their wish list, I will endeavour to choose the right technology to fit their needs, to find the right solution for them.

If you’re unsure which hearing aid is right for you, booking a hearing assessment is the best first step to explore your options and experience the technology for yourself.
