K&M Hearing Solutions:
Leading with Knowledge and Compassion

Picture
I attended the Tinnitus UK Charity Conference in Birmingham. Lots of interesting talks and insights! I now know why tinnitus is often louder after taking an afternoon nap! It was reassuring to see our tinnitus service is delivering the very best in practice, and interesting to hear about Tinnitus UK's 10 year plan to improve access to tinnitus services and ensuring patients receive the right support and advice.
Making sure I'm delivering the best possible care to my patients is at the heart of why I started K&M Hearing Solutions, and part of that is learning about the latest research and keeping on the pulse of latest treatments

Want to Understand Your Hearing Test Results Better?

Picture
If you've ever looked at your audiogram and felt unsure about what it all means, you're not alone. Join us for a free webinar, brought to you by MED-EL UK & Ireland, designed to help you better understand your hearing test results and what they mean for your hearing health.

Med EL's Senior Clinical Specialist, Andrew, will walk you through how hearing tests are done and explain how to read an audiogram. You'll see real examples that show the difference between mild, moderate, and more severe hearing loss - so you can feel more confident understanding your own results.

After the session, Andrew will answer your questions live in a Q&A. With over 30 years of experience in audiology and hearing implants, he’s here to help you take the next step in your hearing journey with confidence.

Click Here to register for the webinar on Saturday 25th October at 11:00am. If you’ve had a hearing test with us and would like a copy of your audiogram, please email [email protected] and we’ll be happy to send it to you.

Kara's Night with Martin Kemp...

Picture
I was over the moon to be invited to this prestigious event hosted by Nuance Audio, promoting their Nuance Audio glasses. The frames have built in amplification in the arms, offering a discreet, alternative solution to hearing aids. Find out more about these glasses here.

On the discussion panel, was Martin Kemp (you may remember him from Eastenders or the band Spandau Ballet), who told his experience of hearing loss and the impact the glasses have made. As an audiologist, it was interesting to hear of Martin's reluctance to try traditional hearing aids. At that time, hearing aids were not the right solution for Martin, and this is something I hear frequently from my patients. I love that a discreet alternative, Nuance Audio glasses, provided a solution for Martin. Martin remarked how much easier it is to hear in social environments, the difference they have made at home, and how happy his wife is, now the tv has been turned down!

I am such a big believer in supporting my patients on their hearing journey. Part of this is finding the right solution, so my patients feel confident and comfortable. With that being said, we have the Nuance Audio Frames in stock. If you would like a demonstration to see if they may be the right option for you or a loved one, please contact us

Why come to an Audiologist for glasses you may ask?
  •  I can check the health of your ears
  •  I can check for, and treat wax blockages which may be dulling your hearing
  •  I can test your hearing to ascertain if the frames are suitable
  •  I can make an onward medical referral if needed
  •  I can talk you through all your options
  •  I can give a full demonstration of the glasses and the app

Heavy Cake

A little something for that 4pm belly rumble!
Ingredients:
  • 225g (8 oz) plain flour
  • 100g (3.5 oz) butter or lard (traditionally lard was used)
  • 75g (2.5 oz) caster sugar
  • 50g (2 oz) currants or raisins
  • Pinch of salt
  • A little milk to bind
  • (Optional) A little mixed spice for extra flavour
Instructions:
  1. Preheat your oven to 180°C (160°C fan) / 350°F / Gas mark 4. Grease and line a baking tray or a shallow square tin.
  2. Rub the fat into the flour and salt using your fingertips until it resembles fine breadcrumbs.
  3. Stir in the sugar and currants (and spice if using).
  4. Add a splash of milk gradually and mix to form a firm dough—just enough to bring it all together.
  5. Roll out to about 1–2 cm thick and place in your prepared tin. Traditionally, a criss-cross pattern is scored on top with a knife to mimic fishing nets.
  6. Bake for 30–40 minutes, or until golden brown and firm to the touch.
  7. Cool on a wire rack. Can be eaten warm or cold—delicious with a cup of tea.
