With Tinnitus Awareness Week upon us, we would like to take this opportunity to raise awareness and the treatments available to those affected by Tinnitus.

The experience of hearing sounds without an external source is referred to as tinnitus. It's commonly described as ringing, buzzing, or humming in the ears. These sounds can be heard in 1 or both ears or in your head. Tinnitus sounds can be constant or can be heard occasionally. The exact cause of tinnitus can be complex and varies from person to person. Tinnitus is common and affects around 7.6 million people in the UK.

Kara, our audiologist, specialises in tinnitus and can offer support and guidance to help better manage the condition. Find out more about our tinnitus consultations here.
Tinnitus UK hosts many online support groups and Forums, more information on these can be found here or call them free on 0800 018 0527.

Want to know more about tinnitus? Read our insightful blog on our website, "What is Tinnitus and how to cope with symptoms"

What is CBT?

Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) is a type of counselling that can help people manage tinnitus by changing their thoughts and behaviours about it. CBT can help reduce the negative impact of tinnitus on quality of life

"CBT has been shown to be one of the most beneficial treatments available to increase quality of life in people with tinnitus"  Tinnitus UK

How CBT works
  • CBT helps people identify negative thoughts about tinnitus and replace them with more positive and realistic ones
  • CBT can help people learn coping techniques to make tinnitus less bothersome
  • CBT can help reduce anxiety and depression, which are often linked to tinnitus

We have partnered with Oto to be able to provide a scientifically proven technique to manage tinnitus effectively. The CBT digital programme has a 96% success rate, and users only need spend 10 minutes a day on their programme to achieve a positive outcome

In order to access the programme, you will need to attend a Tinnitus Consultation to begin with. This will help ascertain if CBT is suitable for you

We've reached our 1 year milestone!

We’re excited to celebrate our first anniversary at K & M Hearing Solutions! Since opening on Kenwyn Street in Truro, we’ve worked hard to become a trusted part of the local community. As a family-run, independent clinic, we’re passionate about supporting both our patients and the causes that matter to us all.

Over the past year, we’ve had the privilege of getting involved in several local initiatives. We’ve hosted open days to raise much-needed funds for Dementia UK and Hearing Loss Cornwall, and we’re proud to sponsor the under-18s Perranporth women’s rugby team. Supporting local youth and causes has been an incredibly rewarding part of our journey.

We’ve also worked hard to establish strong relationships with local GPs and the Ear, Nose, and Throat department at the Duchy Hospital, ensuring our patients have seamless access to referrals. Additionally, our earwax removal service has provided comfort and peace of mind to many in our community. By safely and effectively removing earwax, we’ve helped people regain the ability to hear clearly, improving their daily lives and overall well-being.

We’re excited to invite you to celebrate our first anniversary on February 19th! Join us at the practice for a special event featuring refreshments and an opportunity to hear about the exciting plans we have for the future. A heartfelt THANK YOU for helping us reach nearly 100 5-star reviews—we truly appreciate your support. We look forward to many more years of serving the wonderful Truro community!

Blueberry and White Chocolate Pots

Ingredients:

  • 150g of Blueberries + optional garnishing
  • 1 tbsp Caster Sugar
  • 1 tbsp Lemon Juice
  • 200ml Double Cream
  • 180g Belgian White Chocolate
1. Put the blueberries, sugar and lemon juice in a small saucepan over a medium heat. Simmer for 4-5 minutes, swirling the pan regularly, until berries are soft and bubbling. Set aside to cool completely.
2. Divide the blueberry mixture among four ramekins or glasses. Pour cream into a separate pan and heat until steaming but not boiling, than take pan off the heat.
3. Add the chocolate to the pan, leave for 30 seconds, than stir until you have a smooth ganache. Cool for 3-4 minutes, than pour the mixture over the compote. Cool to room temperature, than chill for at least 4 hours or overnight. Garnish with blueberries to taste!
