Join Us On the 14th August at 2pm For Afternoon Tea

Picture
We’re delighted to invite you to our Afternoon Tea, Cake and Prize event in support of Breast Cancer Now - a wonderful opportunity to come together, enjoy some delicious treats and raise funds for an important cause.

Dave will be serving up Teas and Coffees, while Crumz Cafe - just across the road - is generously providing a spread of cakes and sweet treats that are sure to delight. Kara will be on hand throughout the event to chat and to draw the raffle, with some fantastic prizes up for grabs.

Whether you're coming for the cake, the company, or the cause - we’d love to see you there. Bring a friend, grab a cuppa, and help make a difference.

Kara, our Audiologist chose this charity as it was close to her heart. She went through breast cancer treatment during covid and has been clear for 5 years now. It was after she went through all her treatments that she decided life was too short, and decided to go after her dream of owning her own business. The idea of K&M Hearing Solutions began here!

If you can't be with us on the day, but wish to donate, you can do so on our JustGiving Page.

The Rise of Nuance Hearing Glasses

Picture
If you’ve ever wished your glasses could help you hear better - now they can! Ideal for those who may not be ready to wear hearing aids just yet. Nuance Hearing Glasses, developed by EssilorLuxottica (the makers of Ray-Ban), combine stylish eyewear with advanced hearing assistance, offering a discreet solution for those with mild to moderate hearing loss.

Unlike traditional hearing aids, these smart glasses use beam forming microphones and open-ear speakers built into the frame to amplify speech in front of you while reducing background noise. The result? Clearer conversations without anything in your ears.

Designed for everyday wear, they look like regular glasses - available in modern square or rounded styles and colours. Users can customise their hearing experience through the Nuance Audio app, adjusting volume and sound direction (frontal or 360°) with ease.

While they don’t stream music or calls like some tech glasses, they shine in social settings - especially for those who want to "Stay in tune with Life" with subtle support without the look or feel of hearing aids.

Interested in finding out more? Contact us to book a demonstration, and we will use your previous hearing test result for the demo. Not had a test with us before? Not to worry we will book you in for a basic hearing test and do the demonstration on the same day!

Stay Safe at the Seaside

As we all enjoy the coastline this summer, it’s important to stay aware of the dangers the sea can pose, even on calm-looking days. Just recently, 13 people were rescued from the water at a Cornish beach after getting caught in a strong rip current. You can read the full story here: Cornwall Live - Mass Rescue on Cornish Beach.

Kara also had a recent incident of her own at the beach. Thankfully, she’s okay, but it’s a powerful reminder that things can change quickly in the water.

Please take care:
  • Swim only on life-guarded beaches
  • Stay between the red and yellow flags
  • Keep an eye on tide times and conditions
  • Don’t assume shallow or still water is safe
BBC Sounds has a great 5-minute podcast featuring RNLI advice on how to stay safe in rip currents here.

Let’s all keep looking out for each other and enjoy the seaside safely.

Lemon Shortbread Cookies with Lemon Icing

Picture
Ingredients:
  • 1 cup (226g) unsalted butter, softened
  • ½ cup (60g) powdered sugar
  • 1 tablespoon lemon zest (about 1 lemon)
  • 1 ½ cups (190g) all-purpose flour
  • ¼ cup (30g) corn-starch
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup (120g) powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
  • Optional: extra zest or poppy seeds for garnish
Instructions:
  1. Make the dough:
In a mixing bowl, cream the butter, powdered sugar, and lemon zest until light and fluffy (about 2–3 minutes).
In a separate bowl, sift together flour, cornstarch, and salt.
Gradually add the dry mixture to the butter mixture and mix until a soft dough forms. Don’t overmix.
  2. Chill:
Turn dough onto a sheet of plastic wrap or parchment paper.
Shape into a log (about 2 inches thick) or flatten into a disc.
Wrap and chill for at least 30 minutes (or up to 2 days).
  3. Bake:
    Preheat oven to 325°F (160°C).
Slice dough into ¼-inch thick rounds (or roll and cut out shapes).
Place on parchment-lined baking sheet and bake for 14–16 minutes, or until edges are just turning golden.
Cool completely on a wire rack.
  4. Make the lemon icing:
In a small bowl, whisk powdered sugar and lemon juice until smooth.
Adjust thickness by adding more sugar or juice as needed.
  5. Decorate:
Drizzle icing over cooled cookies or dip the tops.
Optionally sprinkle with lemon zest or poppy seeds.
These lemon shortbread cookies with icing contain common allergens including wheat (flour), dairy (butter), and corn (corn-starch).
