In the latest Which report on hearing aid providers, independent audiologists were given the highest
customer satisfaction rating from over 2000 customers surveyed!

What is a hearing aid?

A hearing aid is a small electronic device specifically designed to enhance the volume of sounds
to improve hearing for people suffering from hearing loss

How do hearing aids work?

Essentially a hearing aid has three main parts: a microphone, an amplifier, and a speaker.
The microphone collects the surrounding sounds, the amplifier then increases the volume of these sounds,
and the speaker transmits the amplified sound into the ear

Benefits of Wearing hearing aids:

✓ Communication

Hearing aids make it easier for people to hear conversations with family and friends, enjoy their favourite music and maintain their independence

✓ Quality of life

Using hearing aids to help with hearing loss has a positive impact on emotional well-being, alleviating stress, anxiety, and the frustration associated with hearing difficulties

✓ Energy boost

Struggling to hear clearly can be mentally draining. Hearing aids minimise this strain, resulting in reduced mental fatigue and stress caused by hearing loss

✓ Manage Tinnitus

Studies have shown that hearing aids can be an effective treatment to reduce the symptoms of tinnitus. View study here by the National Library of Medicine

✓ We will continue to arrange reviews until you reach the stage of being happy and confident with your new aids. At this point you will then be sent for every 6 months as per your aftercare package

You mentioned Real-Ear Measurements as part of the fitting...

What are they?

Real ear measurements (REMs) are a painless procedure that measures how well a hearing aid works in a patient's ear. They allow us to assess how the hearing aids are performing inside the ear canal. Using speech signal, we are able to measure how effectively the hearing aids are accessing the speech signal in relation to the hearing loss

How it works:

The audiologist checks the ear for wax
A soft silicone tube is inserted into the ear canal
A sound stimulus is played into the ear through a speaker
The sound level at the eardrum is recorded
The hearing aid is inserted and the sound level is recorded again
The measurements are compared to targets based on the hearing loss prescription
The hearing aid is programmed to match the targets in order to meet the prescription

Want to learn more? You can watch a video of REM's being carried out here
